COFFO's Director Report

The Coalition of Florida Farmworker Organizations has been contracting with the Department of Community Affairs on a project that will assist Community Action Agencies with high farmworker concentrations outreach farmworkers.

The contract requires that COFFO establish a CSBG Farmworker Advisory Council and   select eight Community Action Agencies for participation and develop six newsletters.

The purpose of the Advisory Council is to advise COFFO in identifying technical assistance needs and the developing of training activities.  It will consist of no more than 15 members and one-third will be representatives of the CAAs receiving technical assistance, one-third representative of government agencies familiar with farmworker services and familiarity with
farm labor issues and one-third members at large that serve and/or have and interest in farmworker issues.  The Advisory Council will meet twice during the term of the contract.

The selection of the eight CAAs is based on the high concentration of farmworkers in the counties they serve, based
on the Migrant and Seasonal Farmworker Enumeration Profiles Study.  Selection of the CAAs is approved the Department
of Community Affairs and participation is voluntarily.
The newsletters will be produced electronically and disseminated to the
Florida CAAs and posted on COFFO’s website, www.coffo.org.

This issue is dedicated to introducing the members of the Advisory Council, the CAAs selected and information relative
to the program.  Future newsletters will contain articles received from the Advisory Council members and issues relative to farmworkers and agriculture.
