UMOS, a Wisconsin based organization and the Coalition of Florida Farmworker Organizations have become an alliance in order to explore the possibilities of expanding and creating additional programs for migrant and seasonal farmworkers in the state of Florida.
The UMOS organization and COFFO have had a working relationship since 1985 and are involved and participating in national activities that better the working and living conditions of the disadvantaged, migrant and season farmworkers and the rural poor. Both agencies are involved with several national organizations including the National Council of La Raza, MAFO (A National Partnership of Farmworker Organizations) and the National Alliance of Farmworker Organizations. More information about the agencies can be obtained to through the organizations’ websites, www.umos.org and www.coffo.org
Presently both agencies are engaged in strategy meetings that will result in the development and implementation of an organizational and service delivery plan.

MAFO
A National Partnership of Farmworker Organizations
MAFO (Midwest Association of Farmworker Organizations) is an organization that was developed in the early 70’s in order to coordinate the delivery service to migrant and seasonal farmworkers that migrated into the Midwest in search of work. This organization was primarily interested in servicing farmworkers that migrated from Texas to the Midwest.
The first attempt to involve the Texas programs with the Midwest programs took place in Austin in 1977. The coordinating conference met with great success and the activity became and annual one. Other organizations that were serving farmworkers became aware of the conference and gradually began to become participants. Eventually the participation from other non-Midwest farmworker organizations became so great that it resulted in MAFO having to change its purpose.
While the organization has retained its original corporate name (MAFO), it has become a Partnership of National Farmworker Organizations. Over the years MAFO has developed a planning committee that meets three times a year to develop the national conference.
