Services Provided by COFFO It is COFFO's policy to not duplicate efforts or services, some of the services identified below may not be available in all counties served by the agency
May include financial assistance for the prevention of evictions, temporary emergency lodging, prevention of utility cut off, transportation, medical assistance and emergency food vouchers.
Assists low income immigrants and farmworkers by:
Providing technical assistance and information on immigration matters to individuals, businesses, and social service agencies;
Serving as a liaison with INS; and
Advocating on behalf of the client community
COUNSELING This service is connected to the Emergency Assistance Program and provides counseling to individuals experiencing financial difficulties. Staff trained by the IRS also prepare Income Tax Returns for individuals requesting this assistance.
AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS Tutorial assistance, youth employment, cultural development, self esteem programs, recreation, and academics and social counseling is made available to farmworker youth ranging in age from 7 to 19.
LITERACY PROGRAMS In fulfillment of its mission to empower the once undocumented farmworkers, the project conducts English as a "Second Language" class. The project also conducts state-wide public education and outreach campaigns to educate farmworkers and their employers of the anti-discrimination employment provisions which protect them under federal law.
SUBSTANCE ABUSE TREATMENT Intensive Outpatient and Regular Outpatient counseling is available for adults and family experiencing difficulties with the abuse of alcohol and other drugs.
MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES Counseling services are provided by Licensed Clinical Social Workers to adolescents and adults experiencing difficulties in school, at home or at work.
WORK EXPERIENCE Work assignments over an expended amount of time are entered into with public or non-profit employment to enhance the employability of the trainee who has had little or no experience in the competitive labor force.
JOB PLACEMENT Job Developers with knowledge of employers and job opportunities in the area assist trainees in landing jobs. Non-financial agreements with the employment service assist in this effort.
VOLUNTEER INCOME TAX ASSISTANCE (VITA) Program assists farmworkers and low income individuals with FREE tax preparation.
This program provides services to the farmworker community with courses and classes in which every participant learns how to deal with daily problems and how to make life easier by learning how to prioritize. This is a course for every person no matter his or her age; from newborn babies to elderly people in their golden years.
